Gala Concert of the 48th Orchestra Week

TILL EULENSPIEGEL

“Till Eulenspiegel” is the main character and title of two symphonic works that could not be more contrasting: in Richard Strauss’ symphonic poem, the story of the medieval jester is musically realised in a lusty, sanguine way – while Andreas Peer Kähler’s orchestral work with the title “Tyll” is based on best-selling author Daniel Kehlmann’s dark and disturbing portrait of Till Eulenspiegel. The performance of Strauss’s symphonic poem will be created jointly by the orchestra and the pantomime duo Bodecker & Neander. Kähler’s work was commissioned by the German-Nordic Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and will receive its festive world premiere on January 4, 2024 at the Berlin Philharmonie.
The second part of the concert will feature Jean Sibelius’ Fifth Symphony in E-flat major, op. 82, as a Nordic contribution to the concert programme.

A concert introduction by conductor Andreas Peer Kähler will take place at 7.15 pm in the main hall.
